Search every open browser tab on your Mac
With a few browser windows open, the tab you need is somewhere among dozens of tiny favicons. Each browser has its own tab search, but it only knows its own tabs, and you have to be in that browser to use it.
WindowHopper searches the tabs of all your browsers at once, from anywhere on your Mac. Press the hotkey, type part of the page's title or address, and press Enter: the right browser window comes to the front with that tab selected.
What it finds
- All browsers together: Chrome, Safari, Arc, Brave, Edge, Firefox, Vivaldi and Opera.
- By title or by address: a tab is found by its URL even when the page title doesn't say what it is, for example a document called "Untitled".
- On every Space: tabs in Chrome, Brave, Edge, Vivaldi and Opera show up even when their window is on another desktop.
- Tab groups and vertical tabs: tabs inside Chrome tab groups and vertical tab strips are listed one by one.
- Not only browsers: tabs in Terminal and Finder, and in other apps that tell macOS about their tabs, are searchable the same way.
Next to your windows
Tabs and windows are in one list, so you don't have to remember whether something is a tab or its own window. Type "invoice" and you get the spreadsheet window, the PDF in Preview and the banking tab together. More on that in a window switcher for Mac.
Tidy up while you're there
⌘⌫ closes the selected tab from the list, and you can select several at once. Favorites keep the tabs you return to every day one keystroke away.
Permission and privacy
The first time you search browser tabs, macOS asks whether WindowHopper may control your browser. That is what lets it read tab titles across Spaces. You can decline, and the rest of WindowHopper keeps working. Tab titles and addresses stay on your Mac: the app has no account and sends no data anywhere.
Questions
How do I search all open tabs on a Mac?
Inside one browser you can use its own tab search, for example Shift-Command-A in Chrome. To search the tabs of every browser at once, from any app, use a tool such as WindowHopper: press its hotkey, type part of the title or address, and press Enter.
Can I search tabs across Chrome and Safari at the same time?
Yes. WindowHopper lists the tabs of Chrome, Safari, Arc, Brave, Edge, Firefox and other browsers in one list, together with your open windows.
Can I find a tab by its URL?
Yes. WindowHopper matches what you type against the tab's address as well as its title.
Does WindowHopper read my browsing history?
No. It only sees the tabs that are open right now, and that information stays on your Mac.
